Significant Types and Uses of Industrial Bolts

Industrial Bolts are tiny in size, but their contribution to the fastening application is enormous. With widely varying combinations of their characteristics, bolts perform numerous large functions. Industrial bolts need a drilled hole and a tapped mating part for installation; just opposite to screws, bolts are frequently not tapered.

The terminology widely used to differentiate various bolt types is also very inconsistent, incorrectly applied, and understood with interchangeability for screws. Accordingly, it is necessary to select the one very cautiously per the requirement rather than the product description offered by the standard fastener manufacturers.


Industrial Bolts are the most versatile standard fasteners available in a wide range of configurations as per the various requirements of different materials and strength levels. All types of fasteners are different in:

  • Thread Specifications

  • Head shape

  • Length, And

  • Materials used in their manufacturing

Significant types of Industrial Bolts:

  • Anchor Bolts: Anchor Bolts prevent separation, lifting, falling, and moving of the items to which they are fastened. Four main types of Anchor Bolts, i.e., L-shaped, double-end rods with plate, headed, and swedge.

Uses: - Preventing light poles, structural beams, and fastening equipment to concrete.

  • Carriage Bolts: Carriage bolts have a smooth domed head with a square section under that pulls into the material to secure spinning during installation.

Uses: - Carriage bolts are used to fasten metal to wood.

  • Elevator Bolts: These bolts comprise a wide, square neck, countersunk flat head, and a unified thread pitch. Elevator bolts are also known as bucket bolts or elevator bucket buckets.

Uses: - Elevator bolts are used in agricultural belting and conveyor systems.

  • Foundation Bolts: Foundation Bolts are used for industrial purposes and, therefore, are made with stainless steel or carbon steel. Foundation bolt types include L foundation bolts, J foundation bolts, Anchor foundation bolts, Eye foundation bolts, and Hook foundation bolts.

Uses: Mainly used in pre-engineered building construction and fastening heavy machines.

  • Hanger Bolts: These bolts have lag or wood screw threads at one end while machine threads with gimlet points on the other side. They are also known as headless hanger bolts.

Uses: - Commonly used for overhead applications.

  • Hex Bolts: Hex Bolts comprise six sides on the head and come in different plating and materials. These bolts are fully or partially threaded.

Uses: - Mainly used for repair and construction work, such as bridges and buildings.

  • Machine Bolts: Machine Bolts are Hex or square shape Bolts, depending on their head style. These bolts can be cut with coarse thread that extends in length from double the diameter of the bolts.

Uses: - Machine Bolts are frequently used to fasten wood to wood, metal to metal, and wood to metal.

  • Square Bolts: Square Bolts are used as construction material for highway systems. These bolts are easy to tighten using a wrench or a nut.

Uses: - Frequently used for aesthetic purposes to provide a rustic look.

  • T Bolts: T Bolts are the same as T nuts in function, but they offer male threaded extrusions for attaching modular components to your application.

Uses: - T bolts are commonly used to make a bolted joint.

  • U Bolts: -U Bolts are shaped in the U letter. These bolts come in either round or square bent, with a flat part with two legs on both sides.

Uses: - U Bolt's support pipework, through which fluid and gasses pass.
